The Golf Courses

The International is a golfers paradise with two award-winning 18-hole golf courses and one of the largest practice facilities in New England. With 50 lodging rooms and three unique special-event spaces, The International accommodates all types of golf outings.

History of The Pines

Built in 1901, The International’s first course was renovated by Robert Trent Jones. The Pines Course originally consisted of 66 acres of open farmland that proved to be ideal for a “short but tricky” nine-hole course. In 1901, Runaway Brook Golf Corporation was founded and purchased the land for $1, thus establishing the formal beginning of The International.

In 1954, Bert Surprenant purchased Runaway Brook Golf Corporation. He then hired Geoffrey Cornish, who, with input from Francis Ouimet and others, designed the regulation course that exists today. In 1961, ITT purchased the course and six years later renamed it The International Golf Club. In 1972, Robert Trent Jones was hired to modify many of the slick greens and challenging bunkers and made it not only the longest course in the world, but one of the most difficult.

Ownership was later passed to Starwood Hotels & Resorts, which subsequently sold the club to principal owner Daniel Weadock in 1999. In 2001, The International added a new course, the Tom Fazio-designed masterpiece, quite appropriately dubbed The Oaks.

The Oaks

The Oaks golf course is a Tom Fazio masterpiece, a premier luxury golf experience, and the first Fazio design to open in New England.

History of The Oaks

Combining existing topography and dotted by distinctive “waste bunkers” and “naturalized areas,” The Oaks delivers an outstanding golf experience.

Nestled in the rural orchard community of Bolton, Massachusetts and boasting panoramic views of the Nashua River Valley, this club recognized for its accessibility and friendly atmosphere.

The International is the only 36-hole golf club in Massachusetts and the first to boast a Tom Fazio classic, making it one of the most impressive golf destinations in the country.

The International hosts all aspects of member lifestyles, whether it’s golf, corporate off-site conferences, business entertaining or weekend getaways.
