Golf Course Condition Update

Course Conditions

 

After a long and extremely cold winter we are finally getting ready to start the upcoming golf season.   The severity of the harsh winter conditions is evident on some of The Pines greens, tees and fairways where the poa annua has suffered some damage from winterkill.  There are multiple ways a turf plant can sustain winter damage but the culprit from this winter is from an extended time in under ice.  Ice damage to poa annua can occur within 45 to 60 under ice cover where as bentgrass is between 100 to 120 days.  Once the ice melts then the turf can be susceptible to continuous refreezes when this may occur the plants cell walls literally explode.  We currently have covers on the greens that have sustained the most damage in an effort to raise the soil temperature and speed up the healing process.  As of today we are hoping that The Pines will be open for play by May 1st (weather permitting).  Our goal is to have The Oaks open for play on April 18th (weather permitting) and the Driving Range available for use April 15th (weather permitting).  Thank you for your continued support.
