The time has come for us to take the initiative and embark upon our 1st annual “Fore Lyme Disease Golf Tournament”. Lyme Disease and other tick-borne diseases, commonly referred to as co-infections, have impacted our families tremendously. We both have children that endure chronic debilitating symptoms that include fatigue, headaches, anxiety, nausea, and joint pain – all from a tick bite!
Steve’s eldest daughter, Courtney 17, was misdiagnosed for over two years and now suffers from persistent chronic Lyme (as well as two other tick-borne diseases). Battling Lyme for the past five years, she has missed most high school milestones like attending classes with her friends, school dances, birthday parties and prom. Chris’ wife Kelly, daughter Sadie, and son Sean also suffer from Lyme disease and co-infections. Each was misdiagnosed due to inaccurate test results which prolongs the illness and increases the complexity of treatment.
Lyme and co-infections are complex diseases that are often difficult to diagnose and treat because it mimics other illnesses including chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, autism, arthritis, and depression. Reliable diagnostic tests are not available and the hallmark “bulls eye” is not present in nearly half of the people that become infected! Furthermore, misdiagnosis during the early stages of Lyme can lead to chronic forms of the disease. Because Lyme is poorly understood, treatment and medicinal protocols are controversial.
Recently, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) announced there are over 300,000 new cases of Lyme each year! This number is staggering. We don’t want to see this happen to you, your child, spouse or loved ones.
We hope that you will consider supporting our cause and join us on
Monday, September 8, 2014 for a fabulous day of golf at The International in Bolton. Proceeds will benefit the Tick-Borne Disease Alliance (TBDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness, promoting advocacy and supporting initiatives to find a cure for Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases.
We look forward to seeing you in September.
