The International Golf Club in beautiful Bolton, Massachusetts is a legendary and historic private golf club. The International has a long history that made the club what it is today.
The International Golf Club, home to the renowned Pines Course and Oaks Course, boasts a heritage dating back to 1899. Our story begins when we were originally founded as the Runaway Brook Country Club. It was in this early era that golf enthusiasts from Boston and the surrounding areas first began to experience the allure of our club.
In 1953, a pivotal moment in our history unfolded as the club came under the ownership of Albert Surprenant. Mr. Surprenant, a successful businessman with a profound love for golf, embarked on a journey to enhance our facilities. Under his visionary leadership, renowned course architect Geoffrey Cornish was enlisted to redesign the Runaway Brook course, resulting in the birth of the iconic Pines Course, which officially opened its greens in 1955.
The year 1961 marked another significant chapter for The International Golf Club when it was acquired by International Telephone & Telegraph (ITT). With ITT’s involvement, the Club saw substantial improvements, including the construction of a new clubhouse and the creation of the Oaks Course, meticulously designed by Tom Fazio.
In 2021, The International was acquired by Escalante Golf, a boutique owner and operator of golf clubs and resorts nationwide. Escalante saw limitless potential in The International and takes pride in improving the private golf Club for our Members. Escalante Golf has been in the process of redesigning and restoring both The Pines Course and The Oaks Course. This project will bring the two Massachusetts golf courses back to its championship form.
